My First Mail

Today was an exciting day because I received my first pieces of mail….two letters! I thought receiving real mail in college was amazing, but this beats that by a long shot! It was also great to realize that the letters were only mailed on the 23rd of January so it only took a little over a week to get here…that is pretty amazing for Africa!! So thank you to those who have sent mail it truly is a treat and a treasure!!

I have now completed three days of Swahili! I must admit that learning a language is not one of my gifts and that the first two days were really hard. Today finally seemed like my teacher and I are getting in a groove and both learning how each other works so today was 100% better than the first two days. I think the first two days were overwhelming for both of us, but as we spend more time together things are coming quicker and quicker. We also worked out that starting today she was going to start bringing her newborn to class. I think having her baby there took some of the stress off of her that she had been feeling while she was away from her new baby. The baby was great today only one interruption for a quick feeding, but otherwise the baby slept and we were able to get a lot accomplished! So thank you for all who have been praying for my language studies! I know that what I learn in Swahili will be invaluable to my ministry in Arua! I am not sure if my teacher is a Christian so would you ever join me in praying for her. Pray that through our times that she will feel the love of Christ and if she is not a Christian that she will come to know Christ in a real and personal way and if she is a Christian that she would greatly be encouraged in her faith. I know that God has put her in my life for this month so I want to make the most of ever opportunity. Her name is Sherria and her daughters name is Sylvia. Thank you so much for joining me in prayer for this mother and her precious little baby.
