Here is a picture of my Swahili teacher Sherria, her little daughter Sylvia, and of course you know who the other person is :) I have enjoyed doing life with her this last month and I am so glad that Jesus brought her into my life. We have had a great time studying, laughing, sharing about Christ, and learning about one another's culture. One of my favorite things we have been doing the last few days is listening to Christian music (from America) and I will explain what the songs are talking about. When it came to the song "Amazing Grace" she leaned over and asked me, "Jeannie, what does amazing mean?"I was taken a little off guard by this question because I had never really stopped to ponder the meaning of amazing. Amazing is just something that we know, we know when something is amazing, we know when something is lame, our culture teaches us. But for her she had no idea what amazing was. I told her to think about the best thing in the whole world. When she had thought about what was the best thing in the world I told her to now apply that feeling to god. She is a Christian and knows all about the Bible and God’s attributes and when she applied the feeling of the best thing in the world to God, she looked at me with a huge smile and said, “that really is amazing! God is amazing!” It was so fun to watch her interact for the first time with the idea that God is amazing! I loved it as well because as I have pondered the last few days on the word amazing, God is showing me more and more how amazing he is! So take time today to listen to a favorite song or read through a favorite bible story and try to read it as if it was the first time. It is amazing the way God can reveal himself in new ways in the familiar! May God remind you of his amazing love for you!
